The Byron Ballet is celebrating their 10th birthday, and Shakespeare’s 400th, with a rendition of the classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Verandah Magazine has a double pass to give away to this classic comedy of love, jealousy and power.
Special guests will be joining the company from Sydney, Perth and Europe. Guests include Micheal Braun (ex principal NZ,WA, QLD Ballet companies), plus Sean Williams and Monique Jose – originally from Australia although recently they have been dancing in Israel, Germany and England. Local dancers Kalindi Lathouris, Eva Nicolosi, Emily Wilson and Bridie Evan’s will enjoy the experience of dancing with these professional partners.
“The dancers receive wonderful mentorship from the more experienced guests and spending a week in the theatre with them brings great inspiration to all,” says director Yvonne Hall. “The younger dancers learn so much about stage craft and the art of ballet over the season, fine tuning their skills to the next level. These inspirations are priceless and can last a lifetime.”
Local male dancer Joshua Green has landed one of the most popular roles – that of Puck, the mischievous side-kick to the Fairy King.
”Puck is an incredibly athletic role and also requires an excellent acting ability,” says Hall. “Joshua’s past gymnastics training along with his recent ballet studies has given him the flexibility and strength to perform some breath taking leaps and he also already has impressive theatre experience having performed principal roles for the Ballina Players theatre company. Although Joshua has been dancing for a relatively short period his natural talent has allowed him to progress very quickly and he is definitely a young dancer to look out for in the future.”
A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, with music by Felix Mendelssohn is a
comedic and inspirational ballet for the whole family and will be performed at the Byron Theatre from 10-13th November.
