Photographer Lisa Sharpe had just been for a surf at her favourite beach when she decided it was a ‘photo moment’.  “I love Broken Head,” she says. “I’d just finished surfing when I remembered I had my camera in the car so I grabbed it and started taking photos of my partner and his mates in the surf. Then I zoomed in on this shot of the lighthouse. It looked wild and interesting and I was glad I had been out there amongst the elements that morning.”

Local Byron Bay photographer Kim Carey had a lucky moment when she saw this beautiful sea eagle. “I photographed the eagle flying  in the early morning in Cosy Corner at Tallows Beach where I do my morning homage to the four elements of water, earth, air and fire, and the four directions, South, West, North and East,” she says. “This eagle came from the East, the place of illumination in American Indian mythology.”

Byron Bay Photographer David Young couldn’t believe his luck when he just happened to to be on the spot as a mother koala and her joey crossed the road near his house.  “They’d just gone into the undergrowth,” he says, “and all I had was my iPhone, so the shot was obtained by diving into the said undergrowth, getting under the fern canopy and trying to get an angle without ‘stuff’ in the way.  Not that my efforts were appreciated – I was being growled by an understandably grumpy mother, and it’s a fierce noise – but I like this shot because it’s so natural.”

Photographer, artist and horse lover Beate Sommer, took this photograph at her farm Aurora Valley near Bangalow.  Says Sommer: ” At first light I go out into the horse paddock and quietly observe the nature all around me.  Surrendering to the awakening of my senses, I never fail to experience awe and wonder at the magnificence of life, and I start my day with gratitude.”

When Byron Bay photographer David Hancock is on his way to the beach, he likes to pause on the bridge over the lagoon to Tallows:  “It’s always a different experience,” he says. “Often when it is still, it feels like being suspended between heaven and earth. The waters below reflect the stillness of the of the skies above. On saturday morning I was running to avoid the rain and wondering why I worry about rain, then I saw this and the rain didn’t matter anymore…or anything at all really!”
