Here’s an interesting ‘Word of the Week’ for Verandah Magazine from our friends at AUM PR – a word with two completely different meanings – either an archaic medical term describing, as they say, a restless tossing and turning of the body OR the malicious and false boasting or giving out by one party that he or she is married to the other, or more simply a false boasting or claim. Both meanings are probably derived from the Latin jactare or jacere meaning to ‘throw or hurl’, but it’s a curious marriage (or not) whichever you way look at it.
