The Byron Ballet Company will be performing the perennially favourite ballet, The Nutcracker, on November 6-8 at the Byron Theatre with special guest Michael Braun, and Verandah Magazine has a double pass to give away – if you’d like to be in the draw simply leave a comment in the box below.
Michael Braun (principal dancer N.Z, W.A, Qld ballet companies) will be dancing the role of the Nutcracker Prince and is also enjoying his mentoring role with local female principals, Laurakate Terry and Kalindi Lathouras. Says director Yvonne Hall: “Both girls have worked their way up the company ranks and are incredibly inspired to be working with someone of Michael’s calibre. It’s a great chance for local dancers to work with someone who has so much experience.”
The sentiment is echoed by Laurakate Terry. “Working with Michael on the pas de deux has been an incredible experience for me,” she says, “and he has given me so many pointers about partnering that I will take with me as I embark into the professional dance world next year.”
In hundreds of towns and cities across the globe, The Nutcracker is performed annually to packed houses and is also a rite of passage for young dancers as they move from chorus to soloist, and into principal roles. Tchaikosky’s brilliant musical score perfectly tells this magical coming of age story. Young audiences will be mesmerized as Clara’s Xmas party is transformed and they’ll thrill to the battle scene where King Rat is over thrown by the Nutcracker Prince. Victorious Clara and the Prince journey to Candy Land where the sugar plum fairy and other people from exotic lands greet them in celebration.
