“I took this photograph at the Bentley Blockade last April, a little over a year ago,” says Verandah Magazine publisher Candida Baker. “Not long after there was rejoicing in the streets when the New South Wales Government suspended Metgasco’s license to drill for gas in the Northern Rivers. Now the Supreme Court has quashed the suspension, with Justice Richard Button stating it was unlawful and giving Metgasco back its license to drill for gas, which will no doubt mean a multi-million dollar compensaiton case. If Metgasco thinks that gaining its license will mean the locals will give up a fight, they must be crazy. That blockade has become famous around the world – if it has to happen again, it will be even bigger and even stronger, I’m sure.”
